Muscat, Oman – The Indian Science Forum’s Annual Science Fiesta 2025, held on May 23rd and 24th at the National University for Science and Technology, proved a resounding success, drawing students and educators from regions as diverse as Jalan, Khasab, Sur, Ibri, Rustaq, Salalah, Muscat, and beyond for a vibrant celebration of science, technology, and innovation.
Champions and Accolades:
- Overall Champion (Rolling Trophy): Indian School Al Ghubra
- First Runner-Up: Indian School Bousher
- Second Runner-Up: Indian School Mabela
“AI – Mind Meets Machine”: A Central Theme
This year’s compelling theme, “AI – Mind Meets Machine,” was woven through all competitions. Events such as debates, poster making, digital symposiums, and exhibitions challenged students to explore various facets of Artificial Intelligence. The Shastra Pratibha Contest saw remarkable engagement, with over 5,000 registrations. The top performers from each grade, the ‘Sastra Pratibhas,’ were specially recognized for their outstanding achievements.
Prestigious Awards Recognize Excellence:
- Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Science and Technology Achievement Award: Presented by Indian Ambassador H.E. G V Srinivas to keynote speaker Dr. Monojit Choudhury, Professor at Mohamed Bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), Abu Dhabi. Dr. Choudhury is noted for his research at the intersection of NLP and various branches of cognitive and social sciences.
- Jayakar Award: In a special tribute to the 70th year of India–Oman diplomatic relations, renowned Omani technologist Tariq Hilal Al Barwani was honored with this prestigious award. Named after scholar Dr. A S G Jayakar, the award recognizes contributions to science, education, and social development. Al Barwani, lauded for his impactful work in technology and youth empowerment, said, “This award is not just a recognition of past achievements, but a call to continue building, inspiring, and transforming lives.” The award was presented by H.E. G V Srinivas, in the presence of Dr. J Retnakumar (Chairman, ISF), Kiran Asher, and Syed Ahmad Salman (Chairman, BoD Indian Schools).

- Dr. J. Retnakumar (Chairman, ISF): Emphasized that science competitions “are essential for students, encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork,” and highlighted the crucial “support from parents and teachers.”
- Suresh AM (General Secretary, ISF): Noted the “enthusiastic participation from 23 schools across the Sultanate,” providing “a vibrant platform to showcase scientific knowledge, creativity, and critical thinking.”
- Mrs. Latha Sreejith (General Coordinator, ISF): Stated that “more than 300 students actively participated, demonstrating their talent, insight, and passion for science” across diverse topics.
- Mr. Hala Jamal (Igniter’s Quiz master): Described the Science Quiz, with over 350 participants, as “a thrilling display of scientific acumen.”
A Hub of Learning and Innovation:
The two-day event featured a dynamic science exhibition, transforming the venue into an interactive learning hub with student-conceived models and experiments. The ISF management committee extended heartfelt thanks to all dignitaries, participants, and supporters for making the event a grand success.
The Annual Science Fiesta 2025 successfully extended learning beyond the classroom, fostering critical thinking, effective communication, and a deeper understanding of science’s real-world applications, while also celebrating the robust relationship between Oman and India.
